The foundational 8 Shields practice for connecting with nature: sit outside daily. The spot where I sit looks like this.
While there, we’re encouraged to settle in to a quieter way of being by:
Scan inwardly. How is your breathing?
Feel wind on your skin, shade, etc. Aware of different moisture conditions.
Let your ears drift ahead as far as they can hear. Out to the right, left, behind you.
Try all four directions at the same time.
Feel your body and sound.
Let your eyes take in full peripheral vision in front of you: sky and earth at the same time. Farthest right, farthest left.
Return to your body while holding peripheral and sounds.
Add taste in your tongue.
Smells in the air.
